Novelty definition from (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelty) stated that the quality of being new, although it may be said to have an objective dimension (such as abstract art or impression) it essentially exist in the subjective perception of individual.

In my point of view, novelty means something new or unusual.Novelty is important for everybody in this world.
The study of creativity that is based on the presumption of novelty aims to reveal the universal laws of its generation and to explain how original works are produced by using the old material and known procedures. But even if an idea is novel, novelty on its own may not mean much. For an invention to have good commercial potential, it needs to be a significant improvement on prior art.

Innovation is a new discipline born from the understanding and application of methods from several different areas, such as, design, business and social sciences. In my point of view, Innovation means changing the existing ideas or knowledge for the purpose of improvement. There are many conditions, knowledge and attitudes that have direct impact on building innovation competencies.

Key elements for an efficient innovation program of study are:

• Critical Discussion (condition) - Learn through criticism, from others, and also self-criticism. This can be done through teamwork activities and presentation where critical debate is encouraged.
• Strategic Focus (knowledge) – Planning the designing process; planning the activities through several class exercise involving game and student competition; and developed through research, analytical and creative activities that reflect a general process of innovation.
• Dependence on Methods (knowledge attitude) – Trust in their methods and technique. Therefore, the innovative program should focus in research, analysis and synthesis.
• Human-Centered Approached (knowledge + attitude) – Success in their innovation is directly associated with the value it brings for people’ lives. Therefore, a successful program of study should include technique for accessing people’ needs.

The dome is based on the shell of the turtle and helps to deflect enemy projectiles.

Invention means “the act of finding out or inventing; contrivance or construction of that which has not before existed; as the invention of logarithms, the invention of the art of printing. (http://ardictionary.com/Invention/6704)
I think invention can be defined as creating new ideas using little knowledge which only created or invent by the inventor. There are some different between invention and innovation. As overall, innovation is the extension of invention or the process of improvement where begin.

Basically, that “Da Vinci Invention Tank” is invented by Da Vinci. The main reason of it’s creation is to be offered to a potential Patron as means of breaking enemies line in war and to minimize the number of causalities (of the side using the tank). So invention is using some knowledge to create something new.

These included a stock ticker, a mechanical vote recorder, a battery for an electric car, electrical power, recorded music and motion pictures.His advanced work in these fields was an outgrowth of his early career as a telegraph operator. Edison originated the concept and implementation of electric-power generation and distribution to homes, businesses, and factories – a crucial development in the modern industrialized world. His first power station was on Manhattan Island, New York.

Personal Reflection :

Today, Mdm. Putri explain definition about Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention to us. She also gave us a lot of examples on each sub-topic. From the beginning, Mdm. Putri says we must think differently and creatively if we wish to becomes creative.

Lesson 2- Defining Creativity

Creativity! Taking the word of Haggins, creativity will be a process that generates something new that has value.

For me, after looking through the lecture notes, searching over the internet, i came out with the idea that creativity is an ability to generates idea to manifest them from a simple thought to reality. According to the lecturer, creativity is one thing that own by every single walk life, and not just domain artist. No matter who they are, they can have creativity as long as they are willing so. As it was quoted Thomas Edison '1 % of inspiration, 99% of perspiration'.

At the end of the lecture, i learned that creativity is one that needed to be put effort to work on it. People are not born with creativity, but they work hard to get it.

lesson 1- Introduction to Creative Studies

As the introduction of creative studies, the lecturer,Mr.Yap sau Bin, explain the meaning and objective of creative.

What is creative studies?
The creative studies establish and present the aspects of thinking methods and creativity, in encountering and solving the problem in our life.

Personal Reflection
In the very class i realise that the idea of creativity being just merely about creating or eventing beautiful stuff were wrong. Creativity are more then that, It also give the meaning of seeing things in a different way from others and solve problems with methods that others could not have foresee.


My expectation in class
Well, i see this class as a place that i could gain knowledge about design in term of creativity in a way that are relax and yet successful. Hopefully the lecturer will show us real life creativity by lecturing us by using method that creative. At the end of the semester, i wish that i will master the skill of being creative and solving things by creativity.
